Bay ward Coun. seeks Crystal Beach noise barriers

Posted Mar 9, 2010 By Kimberly Lochhead

EMC News – Life in Crystal Beach may soon be a little quieter.
Concerns from the community regarding the possible increase of noise in their neighbourhoods due to a proposed extension of the west transitway, has prompted Bay ward Coun. Alex Cullen to lobby the city for the installation of sound barriers.
“They have a very legitimate concern because there is a lot of noise already coming from the 417,” he explained. “As we’re working our way through this process, I will be supporting the community in seeking noise barriers for the transitway as (it) goes to Bayshore from Moodie Dr.”
Ruth Tremblay, president of the Crystal Beach-Lakeview Community Association (CBLCA) stated in an email to the EMC that an additional noise report is not expected, however the previous report did have mistakes, which were later corrected.
“The first noise report had numerous input data errors and our transportation committee pointed out these errors to the city and its consultants,” she said. “As a result the noise report was redone and now reflects more accurately the noise levels in the community.”
