Two arrested in relation to extortion at Algonquin College
Posted Mar 16, 2010 By EMC NewsEMC News - The Ottawa Police Service has charged two adult males following an extortion and forcible confinement at Algonquin College on Woodroffe Ave.
On March 11 at approximately 12:45 pm, a student was approached by a man known to him and asked to accompany him to meet two other men in a washroom.
Once in the washroom the victim was grabbed, held down and searched. The suspects took personal items and demanded he accompany them to a bank machine on Baseline Rd., where an undisclosed amount of money was withdrawn. The suspects fled with the victim’s money and property.
The victim reported the robbery to an Ottawa police officer who, a short time later, located and arrested one of the suspects. A second suspect was arrested on March 12. A third male is still wanted by police. He is described as a Middle Eastern, 18-25 years old, 183cm (6’), skinny, with long curly brown hair.
Hussein Ismail Abdi, 19, of Ottawa, is charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, extortion, forcible confinement and breach of recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court today (March 16).
Otoniel Velasquez, 20, of Ottawa is charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 15, 2010.
