EMC news - Solana Network will be making the information highway safer thanks to their technology SMARTFlow, which monitors IT network traffic to detect performance issues and security threats.

The technology was selected through the federal government's Canadian Innovation Commercialization Program - which matches new innovative products with government departments in need of them.

Nepean-Carleton MPP Pierre Poilievre announced that Solana had prequalified at the company's Moodie Drive office on Feb. 3.

"Supporting Canada's economy is our number one priority," Poilievre said. "Today's announcement is great news for the workers at Solana Networks. Our government is putting its support behind their innovation designed right here in Nepean."

Solana president Nabil Seddigh likened the technology to traffic cameras on a highway, trying to extract a handful of incidents from millions of cars.

"When a company's cyber security is compromised it can shut things down for days," he said. "This lets you know about the threat at day zero."

The $40-million commercialization program that is managed by Public Work's office of small and medium enterprises.

There have been 27 new products selected as part of the program since its launch in 2010.

Also in Nepean, Sage Data Solutions Inc's product INSPEC was selected.

It is a mobile, paperless device that is used for equipment inspection and repair. Since being matched with the government department, the company has secured a contract with the government.

Seddigh said the program provides a way for company's to take their prototypes and market them to a wider customer base.

"As a small Canadian business with innovative technology, we seek diverse means to market and sell our product on the national and international markets," he said.
